Drawing a round torchon edging with fan and spider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| When we are going to drawing a round edging, we start drawing one motif. This has to be done very precise, otherwise we have to re just later on too much
We start with the document with the grid. Save this immediately as a new document with the option "Save As. Now we are not working in the original document and leave the original grid ready for reuse. Be for we draw the motif, we make a new layer. Then we can later on remove the points easily. |

| We start drawing with the tool "Pen" on the left 3 straight lines. ! between 2 columns of points and 2 between the next 2 columns. This is the sign to use the straight edge and the 2 hanging pairs next to the edge. Together this forms the complete edge.
Between the straight edge on the left side and the fans on the right side we make a spider with 6 pairs. Therefore we make 2 diamond-shaped halves in the grid. We remove 1 point on both side of the one in the middle. Than 1 point above and beneath that one, and the others to form the diamond shaped halves To mark the motif we use guidelines. We put these guides just above the middle point of the spider. So this point only appears in the upper side of the motif. |

The sign for a spider is a small oval around the point in the middle of the diamond. We draw this with the tool "Oval". We can draw this from the middle with the "option" of "alt" key. |

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| With the tool "Scissors we slice the ovals exactly on the guidelines. The part outside the guides has to be cut. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Now we determine the place of the fan. There will be no extra line between the spider and the fan. So we remove all the points except those of the spider and those for the fan. Aside the most outside point of the fan we remain one point. | ![]() |

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We place a guideline through the deepest point of the fan. Just above and under this guideline we place as many points as there will be hanging pairs in the fan, in this case 4. From the most outside point the worker and the most outside paint are coming. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| With the tool "Oval" we make the curve of the fan. The centre of the circle is on the point of intersection of the guideline through the deepest point and that one through the 2 most outside points of the fan. To draw the circle from the centre we use the "Option" or "Alt" key. When we use beside the "Option" key also the "Shift" key, the circle will become round right away. We need only the left part of the circle. So we slice it on the most outside points of the fan and cut the right part. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| On the left part of the circle we put the points of the fan. We start with the point in the middle opposite of the deepest point. Per half of the circle the amount of points is the amount of points on the diameter minus 1, in this case 4-1=3. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| With the tool "Pen" we draw the path of the worker in the fan, starting on the upper point. The path ends on the guideline below, just before the lowest point.
When we are finished, we remove all unnecessary point around the motif, also the ones just under the lowest guideline. |

| When only the motif is left, we select all and group everything this the keys "Command - G". When we have to move it, there is no risk, that a point gets lost. The motif now is one whole.
We rotate the motif 90º around, so that is standing. After this we move it to the window "Brushes", in the field right under called "New Brush". In the pop-up window we choose "Pattern brush". In this window we also choose for extension to close. We see the motif now in the window "Brushes"". |

| To make a round edging we choose the tool "Oval" and draw a circle. Be sure that the no filling is used. While the circle is still selected, we click on the 'Pattern brush" and see how the circle outline is formes by our motif. When we worked carefully there are no spaces between the motifs
