Drawing a simple Guipure pattern.
Before drawing Guipure patterns with Illustrator some work has to be done.
At first a sketch of the pattern has to be made.
Then you decide what the thicknessof thread will be used. In the Guipure braids are the lines of the design. To draw the zigzag as sign for the path of the workers in the braid you have to know in advance the thickness of the thread, because this deternimes the distance between the points and the width of the tape. Obviously determines the width of the tape the number of pairs to be used in it, but for a certain thickness of thread a minimum width is needed.
In a braid there should b at least two hanging pairs. For example, for cotton No. 80 or thinner the points of the zigzag are approximately 4mm apart.
After this you draw a zigzag pattern brush with points 4 mm apart and 6 mm wide. In the preferences for Illustrator the grid is adjusted into 2mm. Then draw a small upright zigzag with the points 4 mm apart and 6mm wide 2 times going up and down.
This is selected. Then choose a new brush in the panel “brushes”.
Click in the reply window on a new pattern brush. Our zigzag appears at the bottom of the window “brushes”.
In the sketch now the stem is selected. We click on the zigzag in the “brushes” palette and the line turns into a zigzag line.
The leaves are now put in place just like the flower. They are filled with a zigzag.
