Luxeuil Lace
The city of Luxeuil is situated at the edge of the Vosges. Here the “Dentelle de Luxeuil” is made. This is a mixed lace, machine-made tape together with handmade needle lace.
The tapes are fixed to the pattern. The tape is especially made for this purpose. In both edges a special thread is woven. This thread can be pulled so that the tape can be laid in neat roundings.
The spaces between the tapes is filled in with needle lace stitches. Sometimes also the edge has been decorated with needle lace stitches.
In the “Atelier de la Dentelle” or the “Conservatoire de la Dentelle”quite a group of women are working together to make the lace. So the lace industry in Luxeuil is kept alive and the quality of the lace is monitored. The patterns are traditional but also comtemporary.
