Drawing a Torchon edging with scallops
We start opening the document with the grid of dots. Save this immediately as a new document with the option "save as". Because of this we are not working in the original document and leave the original grid intact for future use.
Before we draw the motif, we create a new layer. Then we can easily remove the excessive dots.

With the tool “pen” we start to draw 3 straight lines at the lefthand side, 1 between two rows of dots and 2 lines between the next 2 rows. This indicate the straight edge on the outside with the two hanging pairs next to it. Together this is the edge.
Then we draw the first zigzag. The next one we can duplicate and place in the right place below the first one. The blue line in the picture is a guide that helps us to determine to which dot the zigzag returns.

At the righthade side we make a scallop. Before doing this, first create a new layer. We draw on this new layer a circle centered in the middle of the guide with the tool “oval”. By using the option or alt key we can draw this circle from the center. The center should be straight under the third point of the scallop and on the height of it’s deepest point. In this case the third point of the scallop is also the last point of the zigzag. If we use the option key and the Caps Lock, the circle will immediately correct.

With the tool “scissors”, which is found under the tool “eraser” , we cut the circle at the points where the scallop begins and ends. The left part can be removed. If it is selected, it can be done immediately , otherwise select the good part first.
The layer on which we drew the pattern, we draw the run of the workers in the scallop. The dots for this, we place on the circle exactly vertically between the dots. If necessary guides can be used.

Copy this motif and paste it neatly below each other until the desired length of the lace is achieved.
